Proofreading involves reading a finalized pdf of a novel that has been copyedited and designed, provided by a publisher, and doing a pass to check for errors as asked by the publisher. This most commonly incudes checking for grammar, spelling, or formatting (spacing, italics, widows, orphans, runts, etc.) errors, adhering to CMOS 18. I have done both comment style and track changes to provide feedback.
For Fautland, I proof listened to the audiobook and listened for pauses, background audio, and other distracting noises.
